Job Details Company Overview This position is responsible for the management of the University's intellectual property portfolio and technology transfer services to support the intellectual property development, protection, marketing and licensing functions of BioVentures, LLC and the technology transfer and economic development organization for the University. In addition, this position serves as the business administrator and manager for all business, financial, administrative and operational activities and the associated programs and services of the department, BioVentures, LLC. UAMS offers amazing benefits and perks: - Health: Medical, Dental and Vision plans available for staff and family - Holiday, Vacation and Sick Leave - Education discount for staff and dependents (undergraduate only) - Retirement: Up to 10% matched contribution from UAMS - Basic Life Insurance up to $50,000 - Career Training and Educational Opportunities - Merchant Discounts - Concierge prescription delivery on the main campus when using UAMS pharmacy Salary: offered commensurate with experience Responsibilities - Manages the intellectual property portfolio generated at the University. - Assists in the review and evaluation process of innovations and facilitates the filing decisions for legal protection. - Serves as the liaison with external patent law firms to support the filing and prosecution of patent applications. - Provides filing and patent prosecution materials. - Communicates with and educates inventors about the patenting process and procedures. - Coordinates the management of patent prosecution with inventors, collaborative parties and licensees as required. - Monitors deadlines and communications for continued prosecution activities. - Manages the intellectual property database and ensures information is up to date. - Oversees the record maintenance for the innovations, ownership, reporting, prosecution communications, and agreements. - Ensures compliance with federal, state and University regulations and policies. - Administers and supervises staff on federal reporting requirements via the federal intellectual property database. - Directs and manages the day-to-day business, financial, administrative, and operational functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, purchasing, and financial reporting. - Ensures the existence and compliance of good fiscal control procedures and standards. - Manages expenditures, including patent costs, and ensures compliance with the annual budget. - Serves as the human resource manager for the department. - Oversees the annual audit and 1099 tax reporting. - Monitors and manages all license and collaborative agreements for compliance of contractual terms and financial obligations. - Manages the distribution of royalty revenues from license agreements to inventors and other appropriate parties in accordance with campus policy. - Assists in the development of the business incubator program for University startup companies. - Oversees the operations and services provided for each tenant company and its employees. - Develops tenant lease agreements and monitors monthly rent payments. - Develops short and long-range financial and budgetary planning and implements approved plans. - Develops financial and statistical reports on the intellectual property and licensing activities. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor degree in Accounting, Business, or related field plus 5 years experience in accounting or finance role. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: - Thorough knowledge of US intellectual property and patenting process. - Knowledge of accounting and financial rules and standards. - Knowledge of federal Bayh-Dole Act and reporting requirements. - Strong analytical and oral and written communication skills. - Multi-tasker.
