OverviewSchedule: Full-Time, 8:00am-5:00pmThe Registered Nurse (RN), will provide specialized patient care and education for patients receiving radiation therapy at the UAMS Radiation Oncology Clinic. This professional nursing role will require the ability to coordinate care for patients, triage patients, and work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. Will analyze complex and ongoing patient assessments and data to identify patient needs. The RN will prepare patients for exam, assist physicians with assessments, maintain medication/medical supplies, assist other areas or staff as necessary, and ensure they present a positive image as a representative of UAMS at all times.The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has a unique combination of education, research, and clinical programs that encourages and supports teamwork and diversity. Delivers nursing care according to standards as defined by UAMS, American Nurses Association, (ANA), AR State Board of Nursing, (ASBN), and those set forth by nursing specialty organizations. Able to provide patient care such as accessing ports, Foley catheter placement, starting IVs, and wound care.Helps develop patient's Plan of Care, (POC), per clinic standards utilizing assessment data. Evaluates the progress of patients' toward attainment of desired outcomes. Administers medication following clinic standards and Nurse Practice Act. Verifies and evaluates care delivered to ensure care is consistent with standards and regulatory requirements. Coordinates care and/or follow-up for patients who receive care in inpatient and outpatient facilities. Coordinates patients' prescription refill requests and patient education coordination in collaboration with physician staff.Demonstrates a commitment to patients and families by being an advocate who continually strives to preserve the rights of the patient while providing safe, competent care. Preserves integrity and safety, maintains competence and continues to grow professionally. Effectively utilizes resources for resolving ethical dilemmas.Provides effective patient/family educationEffectively collaborates and communicates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Communicates care appropriately through documentation in the medical record. Reports variances in care/systems/processes through the appropriate means.Interacts with and assists the public in a professional and friendly manner as needed. Demonstrates effective communication skills; communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments; follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION:Knowledge of health care informatics, including the resources, devices and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools include computers as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems.High level critical thinking and problem solving skills.Ability to work independently, but in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist.Ability to interpret criteria as defined by relevant treatment protocols.INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:Interpersonal communication skills with patients, physicians, physicists, therapists, and students for the purpose of patient care.Communication skills with other departments and personnel to exchange information, obtain or schedule services, or coordinate patient activities on a continuous basis.Ability to use tact and diplomacy in making recommendations, reporting errors or problems, securing information or discussing patient care when dealing with physicians and therapists.QualificationsRequired:Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing. Valid RN LicenseWill accept RN New GraduatesCurrent BLSMust optain PALS certification wihin two years of hire dateexcellent communication skills, basic computer skills, strong work ethics and accountability. Preferred: 1 or more years of nursing experienceThis position is subject to a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
