OverviewSchedule: PRN, As Needed BasisThe RN Vascular Access Nurse under general direction has authority, responsibility, and accountability for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation Vascular Access. Functions primarily as a consultant; provides direct patient care and education to selected patients. Provides for staff development in areas of expertise. Responsible for product recommendations in areas of expertise. ResponsibilitiesDirect Patient CareProvides independent consultation for Vascular Access patients.Follows protocols and treatment plans to evaluate and treat a variety of vascular access issues in the clinical settingMonitors proper utilization of specialty bedsCollaborates with consulting providers as needed for coordination of care and discharge planningStaff DevelopmentEducates staff on prevention and treatment of Vascular Access concerns.Assists with procedure/policy development and reviewMonitoring for proper utilization of Specialty BedsAssist staff to maintain current knowledge and competence in areas of Vascular Access.Special Knowledge/Skills/Management and Leadership ActivitiesData collection/ Tracking/SurveillanceAssist in development and/or revision of policy/procedure/protocols as needed regarding Vascular Access careParticipates in committee workConducts product evaluations when indicated to ensure evidenced-basedAnalyzes stock items for appropriate admissions/deletions to assure quality and cost-effectiveness of products used for Vascular Access careManages/coordinates programs/projects related to Vascular AccessAbility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting prioritiesUses sound judgement and adheres to Code of Ethics and Business StandardsChampions new initiatives; acts as a catalyst for change and manages implementation effectivelyIdentified goals and vision for the teamExemplary written and communication skillsQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with Associates Degree, Nursing Diploma, Bachelors in Nursing, or Master's in Nursing.. Vaild RN License3 or more years of nursing experienceAbility to manage conflict in a variety of situationsStrong customer service orientationStrong basic Vascular Access background and Skill SetSuperior organizational skillsAdvanced communication, leadership and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to align and motivate key process stakeholders, including nurses, providers, and other clinical/administrative staffExperience in Medical Record SystemExperience in Clinical DocumentationKnowledgeable in Infection Control principles and guidelinesPreferred Qualifications3 or more years nursing/leadership experience in an academic, acute care institutionHolds certificate of completion from an established Vascular Access Education Program and is proficient and actively placing PIV/PICCKnowledgeable and proficient in the use of ultrasound related to Vascular AccessKnowledgeable in cardiac rhythm recognitionNational Board Certification in Vascular Access (VA-BCTM)Knowledge in Epic Medical Record SystemKnowledge in MS Office and database softwareExperience in Quality Monitoring and AnalysisThis position is subject to a pre-employment criminal background [and registry (if applicable)] check [and drug screen (if safety sensitive position)].
