Description This position is responsible for conducting an ongoing program for all Medical Physics duties CARTI-wide including, but not limited to, calibration, use, and quality assurance of radiation therapy treatment, simulation, and planning equipment in treatment planning and dosimetry. Requirements EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION: 1.Master---s Degree in medical or radiological physics or in the physical sciences with an additional one year of post graduate study in medical physics 2.Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Physics. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: 1.Minimum of one year work experience post completion of a CAMPEP residency program or a minimum of 3 years work experience if a CAMPEP residency program was not completed. 2.Ability to use, operate, calibrate, collect and analyze data from or with clinical linear accelerators, treatment simulators, CT, treatment planning computers, treatment block fabrication systems, dosimetry and calibration instrumentation and devices, radiation survey and measurement instrumentation and brachytherapy systems. 3.A working knowledge of dosimetry and calibration instrumentation and devices, and radiation safety survey and measurement instrumentation. 4.Ability to acquire dosimetric data and use to commission treatment planning systems; and the ability to generate treatment plans with both high and low energy photon and electron beams Experience with SRS, SBRT, and HDR and LDR special procedures. 5.A working knowledge of medical linear accelerators and auxiliary systems, such as Record and verify systems. 6.A working knowledge of modern imaging systems (e.g. CT, MRI and PET) that are directly tied to radiation oncology planning and practice.-- 7.Ability to independently develop and implement new procedures and train staff. 8.Ability to analyze available literature, task group reports etc. to develop these clinical procedures; and then effectively communicate them to clinical staff. 9.Ability to maintain a collegial and professional relationship with the rest of the physics staff; and carry that same relationship to other CARTI departments. OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:-- Periodic travel may be required. Summary 1.This position involves periodic travel between CARTI clinics to perform Medical Physics related duties as described in this document. 2.Involved directly in External Beam, Brachytherapy, SBRT, SGRT, SRS and other Radiation Therapy functions as appropriate in the Medical Physics scope of practice defined by AAPM. 3.Maintains the Code of Ethics as defined by AAPM and abides by the CARTI Corporate Compliance policy.-- 4.Performs calibrations and quality assurance measurements on all treatment and planning equipment according to established guidelines, records and analyzes results of measurements, takes corrective actions as needed and reports results to Director of physics. 5.Gathers, analyzes and periodically reviews data needed for planning and delivering patient treatments, processes data for use on computer, calibrations, or manually, upon approval by the Director of physics. 6.Participates in developing calibration and quality assurance guidelines and schedules. 7.Assists in maintaining quality assurance, calibration, data acquisition equipment and devices in good condition and current calibration. 8.Provides direct supervision and performs routine checks of patient charts for accuracy and proper documentation according to established guidelines; performs needed make-up treatment calculations. 9.Assists in the institutional radiation protection program and in maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies as requested by the Radiation Safety Officer, including performing routine surveys, calibrations, checks, tests and maintaining required records according to current license conditions. 10.Provides direct supervision and assists in the design and fabrication of patient treatment and treatment aids. 11.Participates in all CARTI related didactic activities as directed by the Director of Physics. 12.Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. 13.Maintains a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and CARTI. 14.Maintains working knowledge of state of the art practices and innovative approaches to their application at CARTI. 15.Performs related responsibilities as required or directed in order to transcend and improve CARTI on an ongoing basis.
