Job Description Job Description About the Role: The Licensed
Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 3 North Medical-Surgical unit on the
night shift plays a critical role in delivering high-quality
patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment. This position
involves providing direct nursing care to adult patients recovering
from surgery or managing acute medical conditions, ensuring their
safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the night. The LPN
collaborates closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other
healthcare professionals to implement care plans, monitor patient
progress, and respond promptly to changes in patient status. This
role requires vigilance, strong clinical skills, and compassionate
communication to support patients and their families during
vulnerable times. Ultimately, the LPN contributes to positive
patient outcomes by maintaining meticulous documentation, adhering
to hospital protocols, and promoting a healing environment during
overnight hours. Minimum Qualifications: Current and valid Licensed
Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of employment within the
United States. Completion of an accredited practical nursing
program. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Demonstrated
experience or clinical training in a medical-surgical nursing
setting. Ability to work full-time night shifts as scheduled.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a hospital
medical-surgical unit or similar acute care environment. Advanced
certifications such as IV therapy or wound care. Familiarity with
electronic health record (EHR) systems. Strong interpersonal and
communication skills developed through patient care experience.
Additional certifications in patient safety or quality improvement.
Responsibilities: Administer medications and treatments as
prescribed by physicians and according to nursing protocols.
Monitor and document patients’ vital signs, symptoms, and overall
condition throughout the night shift. Assist patients with
activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and
comfort measures. Collaborate with the healthcare team to update
care plans and communicate any changes in patient status. Respond
promptly to patient needs and emergencies, escalating concerns to
registered nurses or physicians as necessary. Maintain accurate and
timely patient records in compliance with hospital policies and
regulatory standards. Ensure a safe and clean environment by
following infection control and safety procedures. Provide
emotional support and education to patients and their families
regarding care and recovery. Skills: The required skills enable the
LPN to perform clinical tasks such as medication administration,
patient monitoring, and documentation with precision and adherence
to safety standards. Effective communication skills are essential
for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and providing clear
instructions and support to patients and families. Critical
thinking and observational skills are used daily to assess patient
conditions and respond appropriately to changes or emergencies.
Preferred skills, such as proficiency with electronic health
records, enhance efficiency and accuracy in maintaining patient
information. Additionally, specialized certifications support the
delivery of advanced care techniques, contributing to improved
patient outcomes and overall unit performance.
