The Infection Control Nurse will assess, plan, organize, develop,
implement and evaluate the infection control and employee health
programs and their activities in accordance with current federal,
state and local standards, guidelines and regulations and JCAHO
standards. The Infection Control Program is directed by a Medical
Director to ensure and maintain an effective infection control
The Infection Control Nurse duties include:
Overseeing the annual development, implementation, and evaluation
of Infection Prevention goals and objectives, and conducting
planning and risk assessment to reduce and control the risk of
health care associated infections
Maintaining an effective hospital-wide program for the
surveillance, prevention and control of infections, in accordance
with Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommendations
and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization
Integrating infection control into all hospital activities and
developing awareness about the Infection Prevention and Control
Maintaining regular communication with agencies, healthcare
facilities, and federal, state, and local public health
Preserving and improving the quality of care by sharing information
with all relevant departments
Managing the collection and analysis of healthcare associated
infection data, as well as the development and presentation of
reports and educational programs for personnel and patients
Ensuring that requested patient information is provided to the
Department of Health Services, and recommending to local
leadership/Risk Management when Public Health/Dept. of Health
should be notified in the event of an outbreak
Overseeing infection prevention and control practices, as well as
assisting departments in survey readiness and preparation for
regulatory standard reviews, accreditation and licensure surveys in
both the acute and ambulatory care areas (e.g. The Joint
Commission, OSHA, DPH, CMS, etc.)
Perform additional duties assigned.
Ability to project a professional image.
Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of
practice in job situations.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
Working knowledge of personal computer and software applications
used in job functions (Word processing, graphics, databases,

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Minimum nursing degree from an accredited school or nursing.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in an
acute hospital or other related healthcare facility.
Must possess a working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology,
infectious disease, and aseptic technique to include
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered
Nurse in the state employed.
APIC Certification in infection control preferred, but not
Must maintain current Provider CPR Certification throughout
