JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values, the device nurse will perform care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skills based on the application of nursing process. The Device nurse uses assessment skills to ensure multidisciplinary patient care and teamwork to meet established practice guidelines, unit specific policies and regulatory standards.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Licensed to practice as an RN in Arkansas

Experience: Cardiology experience preferred, but not mandatory

Physical Requirements: The physical activities involve balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping and the use of fingers and respective movements. An individual in this position may be required to carry of lift weight of up to 50 pounds, push/pull 100 t 150 pounds. The sensory and communicative activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling and speaking. Individuals in this position could possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions, blood borne pathogens and body fluid, chemical hazard, respiratory hazard and radiological hazards

Skills: Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification. The RN must possess demonstrated knowledge, training and skills necessary and appropriate to the adolescent, adult and older adult. They must demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal effectively with multidisciplinary team members, patients, significant others and physicians. Must possess effective decision making, assessment and critical thinking skills.

PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, families, physicians and co-workers.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Device Clinic Supervisor

Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient or other highly sensitive business information and must comply with the terms of SVHS/CHI Policies as they apply to their jobs.


AGE GROUPS: Preschool (3 yrs-6yrs) ___ School Age (6 yrs-13yrs) ___ Adolescent (13yrs-18 yrs) __ Adult (18 yrs-64 yrs) __ Older Adult (65+yrs)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assessment:
Performs objective and subjective patient assessment.
Assesses patient response to any device changes made at last follow up.
Performs in-depth in office device interrogations.
Performs device battery and lead testing.
Displays knowledge of normal device testing results and device function. In addition, is able to identify abnormal testing results.
Displays extensive understanding of device diagnostics.
Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and assesses patient for symptoms related to such.
Reviews remote transmissions as assigned by department supervisor.
Performs testing and documentation of device function as indicated by research protocol.
Performs device follow-up at satellite clinic.

2. Maintaining Plan of Care
Develops plan of care to support the patient goals and the medical plan of care, based on device clinic standing orders.
Evaluates and documents the patient's response to the plan of care and makes changes as appropriate.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to coordinate and plan provision of patient care.

3. Maintaining Patient Treatments
Evaluates and documents patient's response to programmed device parameters and, prescribed medications.
Reprograms complicated and in-depth changes in device parameters, based on testing results and within established safety guidelines.
Reprograms changes to device parameters related to patient complaints/symptoms.
Notifies physician of programming changes as indicated.
Troubleshoots devices as necessary, with minimal assistance from supervisor.
Coordinates and documents communication between the patient, significant others and multidisciplinary team members in order to support the plan of care.
Ensures effective and wise use of resources.
Assures equipment is working properly.
Assures presence of supplies necessary to perform device interrogations.


4. Teaching
Assesses the patient's and significant other's knowledge base, ability and readiness to learn.
Provides information to patient regarding device follow up scheduling, basic device function, device restrictions.
Teaches the use of remote monitors to patients and assesses and documents understanding.
Provides device informational support to technicians within the device department.

5. Leadership
Participates in peer review.
Serves as preceptor and role model for new employees and student.
Utilizes conflict resolution to promote a cohesive team.
Demonstrates accountability for their individual nursing practice.
Maintains current knowledge of clinical and operational hospital policies and practice updates.
Engages in a therapeutic relationship with patients and develops healthy interpersonal relationships among colleagues.

6. Unit Specific Competencies
Provides care to patient population utilizing research findings and evidence based practice.
Displays knowledge of Paceart software including patient chart, scheduling package, and utilities.
Displays knowledge of PDF production and transfer to the EHR..
Meets all unit-specific yearly skill requirements within acceptable timeframe

Job Responsibilities

    Job Requirements

    We are looking for a responsible and compassionate Registered Nurse with top-notch clinical skills, a caring attitude, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. It is also important to display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively educate patients and their families on the in-home healthcare process.



    Additional requirements for this role include:


    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to practice in our state
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
    • Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
    • Specialty certification (ex: CCRN, CNOR, CEN) preferred--
    • Additional certification or licensure may be required for some specialty areas
