JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values, the
device nurse will perform care requiring specialized knowledge,
judgment and nursing skills based on the application of nursing
process. The Device nurse uses assessment skills to ensure
multidisciplinary patient care and teamwork to meet established
practice guidelines, unit specific policies and regulatory
Education: Licensed to practice as an RN in Arkansas
Experience: Cardiology experience preferred, but not mandatory
Physical Requirements: The physical activities involve balancing,
climbing, crawling, crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting,
pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping and the use of
fingers and respective movements. An individual in this position
may be required to carry of lift weight of up to 50 pounds,
push/pull 100 t 150 pounds. The sensory and communicative
activities required for this position include feeling, hearing,
seeing, smelling and speaking. Individuals in this position could
possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions,
blood borne pathogens and body fluid, chemical hazard, respiratory
hazard and radiological hazards
Skills: Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
certification. The RN must possess demonstrated knowledge, training
and skills necessary and appropriate to the adolescent, adult and
older adult. They must demonstrate communication and interpersonal
skills, and the ability to deal effectively with multidisciplinary
team members, patients, significant others and physicians. Must
possess effective decision making, assessment and critical thinking
PRIMARY CUSTOMERS: Patients, families, physicians and
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Device Clinic Supervisor
Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient or other
highly sensitive business information and must comply with the
terms of SVHS/CHI Policies as they apply to their jobs.
AGE GROUPS: Preschool (3 yrs-6yrs) ___ School Age (6 yrs-13yrs) ___
Adolescent (13yrs-18 yrs) __ Adult (18 yrs-64 yrs) __ Older Adult
Performs objective and subjective patient assessment.
Assesses patient response to any device changes made at last follow
Performs in-depth in office device interrogations.
Performs device battery and lead testing.
Displays knowledge of normal device testing results and device
function. In addition, is able to identify abnormal testing
Displays extensive understanding of device diagnostics.
Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and assesses patient for
symptoms related to such.
Reviews remote transmissions as assigned by department
Performs testing and documentation of device function as indicated
by research protocol.
Performs device follow-up at satellite clinic.
2. Maintaining Plan of Care
Develops plan of care to support the patient goals and the medical
plan of care, based on device clinic standing orders.
Evaluates and documents the patient's response to the plan of care
and makes changes as appropriate.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team to coordinate and plan
provision of patient care.
3. Maintaining Patient Treatments
Evaluates and documents patient's response to programmed device
parameters and, prescribed medications.
Reprograms complicated and in-depth changes in device parameters,
based on testing results and within established safety
Reprograms changes to device parameters related to patient
Notifies physician of programming changes as indicated.
Troubleshoots devices as necessary, with minimal assistance from
Coordinates and documents communication between the patient,
significant others and multidisciplinary team members in order to
support the plan of care.
Ensures effective and wise use of resources.
Assures equipment is working properly.
Assures presence of supplies necessary to perform device
Assesses the patient's and significant other's knowledge base,
ability and readiness to learn.
Provides information to patient regarding device follow up
scheduling, basic device function, device restrictions.
Teaches the use of remote monitors to patients and assesses and

Additional requirements for this role include:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license that allows you to
practice in our state
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Experience as a Registered Nurse preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Specialty certification (ex: CCRN, CNOR, CEN)
- Additional certification or licensure may be required for some
