more than 600 licensed beds, CHI St. Vincent Infirmary is a
faith-based, not-for-profit organization serving the health care
needs of Arkansans, including patients from all 75 counties. CHI St
Vincent Infirmary offers a full array of cardiovascular care
including adult heart surgery. An integral part of this care is
mechanical circulatory support which includes extracorporeal
membrane oxygenation (ECMO). ECMO is a modified cardiopulmonary
bypass technique used for the treatment of life threatening cardiac
or respiratory failure. An ECMO RN is educated in adherence to ELSO
guidelines to manage the ECMO circuit and patient including blood
pump, tubing, artificial oxygenator, and related equipment. The
ECMO RN works under qualified medical direction and supervision via
the ECMO Coordinator and Physician.
