Summary of Job Duties:The College of Business, Health, and Human Services Academic Advisor (Student Development Specialist) is responsible for the delivery and documentation of academic advising for undergraduate students in the School of Business (SOB). The position also develops academic degree plans for students and will be responsible for other administrative duties in CBHHS. This position is governed by state & federal laws & agency/institutional policy.Qualifications:Required Education and/or Experience:* Master's degree in education, student advising, student personnel, student development, counseling, or related field;* Two (2) years of experience in student advising or education counseling;* Experience working in a team environment with a collective focus.Preferred Education and/or Experience:* Experience in a higher education setting;* Experience with complex database systems, specifically Boss, Banner, and Degree Works.Job Duties and Responsibilities:* Deliver individual, group, and video conference/e-mail academic advising to SOB students;* Interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governed by the state, federal, and the university to students, faculty, and others;* Document and maintain undergraduate student advising records;* Develop academic degree plans for students;* Develop and conduct group/individual workshops/training modules related to functional areas of responsibility;* Serve as an advocate for and liaison between the student and other UA Little Rock offices to resolve concerns;* Assist with development and maintenance of advising and retention programs;* Compile information for various statistical assessments and status reports;* Gather information on available campus and community service resources along with data on student and faculty needs;* Participate in campus and off-campus functions that support the university, division, and departmental mission;* Participate in the development of plans and execution of recommended goals aligned with strategic plans;* Navigate and work in all student technology systems including Boss, Banner, Argos, Degree Works, etc.;* Manage all assigned projects;* Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:* Knowledge of student advising and/or student services;* Excellent written and verbal communication skills;* Strong problem-solving skills;* Civility in all interactions of a public or confidential nature;* Ability to work sensitively with diverse audiences including students, public, faculty, staff, and administrators;* Interact professionally, as a role model, and collaborate within professional boundaries with faculty, staff, students, administration, and internal/ external agency representatives;* Strong communication skills across a variety of media formats and help to develop and maintain content for web pages and social media venues;* Ability to make sound judgments and assist in resolving student concerns;* Ability to self-initiate project tasks after accepting an assignment under general supervision;* Demonstrate follow-up contacts and consultations in a timely manner;* Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner and within established deadlines;* Ability to maintain ongoing communication with supervisor regarding job assignments, deadlines, scheduled appointments, and all other activities linked to job performance;* Ability to appropriately handle multiple complex tasks which have been concurrently assigned with accuracy, attention to detail, and meet supervisor expectations;* Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team;* Knowledge of Internet and conventional office technology tools is required, including but not limited to e-mail, Internet search engines, and software applications such as Word, Excel, and Word Press;* Ability to adapt to and apply new technology;* Knowledge of confidentially sensitive information regarding the student, college, and record information;* Ability to work a flexible work schedule which may include nights and weekends;* Ability to use customer service initiatives with clients and campus community;* Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education;* Knowledge of student development theory;* Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations, and procedures;* Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment;* Ability to compile statistics into reports;* Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities;* Ability to travel in the state -
