Job Description for Mill Room Mgr.


To provide a clearly defined list of goals for the individual currently hired to perform this function and what their responsibilities are to Akin House, Inc. on a weekly basis.

Scope of General Duties:

- Safety / Housekeeping - 5 Minutes will be dedicated at the end of the work day to maintaining the appearance and safety of your departments.

1. Sweep, clean, organize or perform these duties daily:

- All work areas.

- All raw material storage areas such as kilns, racks, etc.

- Tools will be gathered and put in their proper place.

- Any broken parts, scrap wood, or pallets gathered and removed out of the building to the scrap pallet pile on the yard or to the hog.

- Saw dust swept, vacuumed, dumped.

- Spoil boards stored properly.

- Pod system serviced for proper vacuum.

- Vacuum pumps cleaned and serviced.

- Aisle ways cleared to prevent trips and falls.

- Inspect all machinery to verify everything has working status.

- Inspect tools and tool changers daily.

- Notify all appropriate persons when mechanical failure occurs.

- Make sure that unused parts, lumber, and other raw materials are stored properly.

- Work with vendor to inventory tools, resharps, order through purchasing.

- Hand out the correct route sheets and make sure that all parts are labeled correctly.

- Ensure that all parts are made and sized correctly, quality checks performed every 10 parts.

- Maintain a quality product. If questions arise, work through the Quality Manager. If it is a workmanship issue with one of your employees, retrain that person or take disciplinary action through Human Resources Department if needed.

- Work to "CLEAR" and complete all production schedules on time.

- Ensure that employees are at their work stations on time, to start the day and after breaks.

- Train your employees so that they work safely and efficiently. Cross training is a must to ensure production continues when people are absent.

- Inventory your raw materials and notify Purchasing of low quantities so that ample time is allowed for ordering and we do not run out.

- Ensure that parts carts are used appropriately with proper parts labeling and diagrams.

- New Styles - Department Manager will coordinate with Engineering to predetermine how new styles are to be routed, including making sure all jigs, forms, gauges are in place before we go into production. Operations Manager must approve all "new" products.

- Read and Know the Policies of this Company as stated in the employee handbook. It applies to Managers alike and it will be strictly enforced by the Human Resources Manager. It is our guide in all situations and will be followed.

- All personnel matters will be referred to and handled through Human Resources.

- All disciplinary actions will be conducted in a timely and professional manner.

- Personal Conduct - you are expected to carry out your job duties and communicate with other members of management in a courteous manner. Profanity is unacceptable in the workplace. Offensive materials, pictures, or other items are banned by the handbook.

- Evaluations that determine your compensation will be based on these criteria.

- Changes to your job responsibilities may become necessary, if so, they will be made with your knowledge, the approval of the Plant Manager and Human Resource Manager.

Productivity / Efficiency:

The Manager is required to function as a member of the team. They must actively plan, lay out, and follow up on scheduled work. In the process of doing this it will be necessary that the Manager be aware of alternatives that can be produced when the unexpected happens and there is a problem in the flow of materials, product, or a machine breakdown. You should know what stage of production your scheduled work is in at all times. You will be responsible for following up on the product your department will produce all the way throughout the operation in order to be able to "push" parts through the system and keep the downstream departments running.

Efficiency is the key ingredient to our success. Overtime due to poor planning, material restrictions, or neglect will be the largest downfall to making a profit. Efficiency must be maintained at all times. Cross train your people so that they know how to do multiple tasks. Shift their work assignments within the department so that the work they perform is purposeful and profitable at all times. Work to develop a team atmosphere in your department that is based on all employees contributing and carrying their fare share of the workload.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
