An ECMO RN is educated in adherence to ELSO guidelines to manage the ECMO circuit and patient including blood pump, tubing, artificial oxygenator, and related equipment. The ECMO RN works under qualified medical direction and supervision via the ECMO Coordinator and Physician. Responsibilities
Monitors pump functioning throughout patient therapy and maintains pump integrity; -monitors circuit volume and administers products, medications and/or volumes as -ordered; monitors anticoagulation, electrolyte acid-base balance and blood gas -composition volumes and adjusts ECMO circuit to maintain physician orders. Recommends appropriate changes to current patient management based on new information or changing patient status. Generates and compiles appropriate documentation related to ECMO. Operates point of care laboratory equipment; interprets and acts on results based upon physician orders. With the ECMO coordinator or perfusion sets up and primes ECMO circuits; initiates and maintains extracorporeal life support according to protocols. With the ECMO coordinator or perfusion assists with logistics of cannulation, decannulation, and in-house transport of patients on ECMO. Coordinates and assists with inter-facility transport for patients on ECMO. With the ECMO coordinator and perfusion department manages planned and emergent disruption of ECMO. Assists with the replacement of circuit components under normal and emergent conditions. Assures a minimum amount of pump time quarterly and annually to maintain competency with ECMO procedures. If these cannot be met with patient care, ECMO RN will -participate in drills to meet requirements. Promotes shared governance, or facility decision making activities, developing and nurturing research to positively affect clinical outcomes and promotion. Independently develops, evaluates and revises individualized, age and culture-specific teaching plans for all patients and families. Identifies problems and utilizes problem solving skills to participate in finding solutions to resolve problems, following through to implement solutions. Role models the use of the problem solving process. Must be willing to accept call assignments. Maintains required yearly competencies for all CVICU RNs Will function in the roles and responsibility of a RN/charge/preceptor in the CVICU when needed. Safely recovers and takes care of open heart surgeries, vascular and thoracic surgeries Demonstrates a firm understanding of hemodynamics and the complex patient Qualifications
We are offering a $15,000 Sign on Bonus to new hires who meet the following eligibility requirements: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred OR Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Arkansas or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) member state - 2 years of experience as an RN/PCC in the CVICU Must maintain competency by attending quarterly simulation (16 hours per quarter) and annual hospital competency verification (24 hours)
