Department: COM Biochemistry & Molecular Birrer Lab Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The Research Associate I position reports directly to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Director and is involved in all technical aspects of a laboratory focusing on the genomics of ovarian cancer. The position is responsible for maintaining day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including supplies, equipment maintenance, data collection, and following experimental protocols. The position is also involved in designing various aspects of research protocols, including grant and protocol writing. The Research Associate I is responsible for implementation and reporting of research projects involving human and animal specimens. This position provides administrative support to the laboratory through ordering supplies and overseeing expenditures. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of research experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of laboratory work. Experience in biology/molecular biology. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree is biochemistry, molecular biology, biology or related field. Certified Research Specialist. CPR/AED certified. Purity in nucleic acids experience. PCR, sequencing and bioinformatics experience. Additional Information: Responsibilities: Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of all supplies and solutions needed for the continued operation of the lab. Collects, analyzes, and reports data. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects and evaluates specimens and/or tissue cultures from human and animal samples. Operates, maintains, and calibrates instruments and equipment. Assists, supports, and coordinates with research partners and vendors, training new students and incoming lab personnel. Performs experiments in molecular biology, cell culture, animal work, and handling/examination of specimens (human and animal), microscopy and imaging, and performs a wide variety of assays, tests, and procedures. Handles lab animals and performs necessary procedures. Involved in designing certain aspects of research projects and independently conducts work complimentary to overall research objectives. Performs literature research/collection. Assists in writing research protocols, SOP's, manuscripts, and grants. Assists with writing, preparing, and implementing clinical trials. Creates and maintains detailed research records and databases. Prepares and presents PowerPoint presentations based on research project data. Orders supplies through Workday, maintains inventory, and manages laboratory spending budget. May perform other duties as assigned.
