Summary of Job Duties:Check-In & Out/Scheduling Procedures
Schedules, reschedules, and coordinates appointments using hospital
software by performing visit notifications to patients,
pre-registration of patients as needed; inputs and/or updates
accurate patient information; processes walk-ins, creates new
patient charts, accesses systems for orders, works patient portal
and maintains tracker board for multiple departments; Issues
school/work excuses, sends out no show letters.
Insurance Verification/Benefit Explanation
Conducts insurance verification and benefit explanation by running
eligibility on patients, performs ABN completion; conducts
authorizations and pre-certifications, tracks pre-authorizations,
maintains referrals; enters benefit and authorization information;
obtains OON waiver and coordinates completion of OON waivers.
Reports (Medical & Maintenance)
Maintains initial plans of care (signatures, etc.), inputting daily
and monthly statistics and communicates any medical record issues,
running various maintenance reports (i.e. bogies, denials, open
encounters, laser arc reports, cancelled clinic reports, etc.)
POS Collections & Patient Counseling
Collects and post payments and issues receipts;
reconciliation/management of daily deposit and change fund;
counsels patients on any and all related financial information
(i.e. hospital discounts and reviewing Medicaid screening);
monitors patient balances using the matrix payment method;
pre-counseling patients regarding the payment expectation for
service.
Charge Entry
Completes UB value codes, inputs daily charges and reconciles
charges.
Professional Development
Attends required training and/or in-services, Attends staff
meetings and participates in the orientation and/or training of new
staff., Participates in annual educational needs assessment,
Maintains required job skill competencies and completes skill
assessments annually; completes and maintains documentation of
continuing education hours annually.
Other duties may be assigned to this position.Qualifications:
High school graduate, GED, or formal education equivalent.
Seven years of training and/or experience in business office
administration, customer service, or related work of which three
years' experience is in patient registration, scheduling, or
billing in a healthcare environment OR Bachelor's degree plus three
years' experience in patient registration, scheduling, or billing
in a healthcare environment.
